Irregular Migration and Reintegration of Return Migrants
It should be stated that the tightening of visa and border controls in destination and transit countries have resulted in the resort to irregular migration pathways including migrant smuggling and human trafficking. At the same time, a significant proportion of recent surge in the number of refugees and asylum seekers could be economic migrants seeking better life prospects in destination countries. Rising anti-immigration sentiments in high income countries have led to a sharp increase in the number of forced and voluntary return migrants.
Accordingly, the Federal Government should collaborate with relevant stakeholders to design and implement effective strategies for the reintegration of return migrants including re-orientation programs in both host and destination countries, training and skills acquisition programs and the provision of business development and financial support services.
